Thursday, June 12th, 2008

So, you think Navtej Kohli is mad about blogging? Huh?

Well! If you do, you’re not at all wrong :)

Yes! I confess I’m a mad blogger…

Blogging is my favorite hobby and it is quite evident from the number of blogs I have. I met this hobby almost a year back, when my friend Tej asked me to comment on one of his blog. It‘s so much fun to see your content published on net, but most of all being appreciated by readers.
I don’t enjoy writing as much, as I enjoy reading and replying to comments. I can’t explain in words how much I appreciate all those who read my blogs. My blogs are a mirror of how I feel about things. Whether its business, sports, study, health I write on everything that captures my interest.

I’m so addicted to blogging now, I couldn’t last a whole day without putting a post or two. Obviously, I can’t be blogging all the time, but whatever little time I get, I gladly devote it to blogging. I have blogs everywhere and on almost every topic. I have blog on wordpress, livejournal, bravenet, rediff, blogspot…pheww!! Name any blog and you will find me there ;)

Gosh! I hope there is nothing wrong with me :P

Anyways, blogging is and will always remain a fun for me. So, all you guys out there keep reading my posts and don’t forget to leave your encouraging comments. :)

Navtej Kohli’s new found hobby- Golf

Tuesday, May 20th, 2008

Navtej Kohli founds his new interest in Golf. He shares some tips and tricks of the trade on Navtej Kohli Blog.

Golf may seem like a simple game that sees you using a club to hit a ball into a hole, but ironically it is complex sport. Largely because of the huge size of the courses compared to the tiny balls and holes.
Golf is played with golf clubs, which come in three types: wood, iron and putters. Clubs can be expensive, but a good set of clubs will help your game, as there are differences between each one that affect how far the ball goes. A one wood (a driver) will hit the ball very much further than an eight wood, for example.

Golf

Probably the most famous golfer in the world today is Tiger Woods, who was won ten major golf tournaments to date, making him one of the best golfers ever. Most people think that Jack Nicklaus is the best golfer ever, as he won more tournaments than any other, but if Tiger Woods keeps playing and winning like he is for another decade or so then he is certainly the undisputed champ.
If you want to get into golf, there are plenty of ways to learn without having to go around a full-size golf course. Many places have ‘pitch and putt’ mini-golf courses, where you can go with nothing more than a chipping club (an iron) and a putter, and play on mini-holes. Children who are not yet old enough to do this can play crazy golf, which is generally putting-only, and has fun, brightly-coloured obstacles on the course and holes which make the ball do interesting things. It’s surprising just how fun golf can be, and many kids get their start with crazy golf only to go on and play real golf as a hobby for the rest of their lives.

Navtej kohli talks about benefits of Aerobics

Wednesday, May 7th, 2008

In response to one of the comments, today, on Navtej Kohli blog I’m stating the benefits of aerobic exercise.

Though, I don’t know much about aerobics but I found one good article on the same.

Below is an excerpt…

Aerobics is highly beneficial. While doing aerobics your body produces more energy and delivers more oxygen to your muscles. Your heart beats faster and increases the blood flow to your muscles and then back to your lungs.
Aerobic means “with oxygen” and your body’s aerobic system is your heart, lungs, blood vessels and muscles. The benefit of aerobic exercise is based on how well your body can deliver oxygen to your muscles and use it for energy. Regular aerobic workouts increase your ability to take in and transport that oxygen and improve your aerobic capacity.
A good aerobic exercise program can help you live a longer, healthier life and enhance your well being. You get a multitude of benefits if you do your aerobic workout on a regular basis even if the intensity is low or short in duration. It’s fun to keep a log of your workouts that track your progress to see how far you have come in your pursuit of fitness.
The bottom line is to start an aerobic workout that you enjoy and look forward to doing on a consistent basis. Aerobic activity is fun and it doesn’t require a lot of concentration. So listen to music, watch TV or listen to educational tapes while you are performing your aerobic exercise program.
Aerobic workouts make you feel better about yourself so you can enjoy life more. It boosts your mood, strengthens your heart muscle, helps you maintain your weight and can even lower your blood sugar levels. It can help increase your stamina and help you manage stress. A session of aerobic activity can help you relax after a stressful day at work. It can even improve your sexual performance.
If you maintain a regular aerobic exercise program as you get older, your muscles will stay stronger and help you avoid fractures and falls. This will help keep you independent and on your own longer. People who engage in exercise and cardiovascular fitness appear to live longer than those who don’t.
Aerobic activity comes in many forms and you can benefit from the time you spend in doing them. The benefits of aerobic exercise are good for your body and your mind and will help to make you live longer, stay healthier and feel great.

Mother’s Day

Tuesday, May 6th, 2008

Mother’s day is on its way and if you still haven’t selected any gift for your mom then here are some ideas.

There are many ways to categorize gifts by price, type, personality, habbits. But whatever you select my personal opinion is that instead of buying something expensive you should make something from your own hands and gift it to her.

It will show a personal touch and will be more touching. So in the hobbies section here would a new hobby for you to work on this week. Some hand made ideas are:

Yummy treats, write a song, embriodery, greeting card, handmade home decoration items, etc. The list is never ending so use your imagination and get going.

Benefits of yoga by Navtej Kohli.

Being a doctor myself I cannot afford to overlook the benefits of yoga for a healthy mind and body. Yoga has graduated from merely a hobby to a way of life for many.  People from all walks of life are practicing and enjoying yoga equally.

I must thank yoga if ever do I get a chance. It has helped me much more than just being physically fit. What keeps me motivated to stick to yoga and continue practicing is its calming influence on my mind and soul. Once you will start practicing yoga you will notice instant changes in yourself.

Many studies too supported psychological benefits of yoga, which are ultimately related to physical benefits. Some of the most profound benefits of yoga are stress management, improving stamina, confronting anxiety, expanding consciousness and augmenting immunity.

Last week at work was really stressful for me. But thanks to yoga that rejuvenated my mind body and spirit. We all know that mind and body goes hand in hand. Studies have shown that people who practice yoga share a better optimism, better awareness and alertness and even appreciation for one’s surroundings.

Yoga is a form of exercise and it’s this form of activity provides great benefits psychologically. It simultaneously works on your inner and outer beauty.
Even the spiritual benefits of yoga are immeasurable. It helps you to focus and, thereby turn away your mind from disturbing thoughts. Yoga is a great way to achieve that so called unexplored higher level of consciousness.

With such enormous benefits, I just can’t resist practicing yoga. For me it has become a norm now. So you too don’t miss your chance at a healthy life. Find yourself a yoga school today!

Navtej Kohli on Dollhouse Making

Tuesday, April 15th, 2008

Every man has a child within him so has Dr. Navtej Kohli. On this Navtej Kohli blog he shows the childish hues of his character.

It’s always fun to have a hobby in life. The world of hobbies is an endless array of possibilities just waiting to be explored by you. Though, I have many hobbies but the one that keeps my creative juices flowing is dollhouse making.
The dollhouse is part and parcel of the child’s life, and it has emerged from its humble beginnings to be considered a work of art. Being an engineer construction has always been my forte. If you too enjoy building and constructing things, dollhouses could be the one for you.

For beginner, it is best to begin with a dollhouse kit. These can be found at any arts and crafts store and offer a wide array of choices. Dollhouses can be made to resemble period homes, such as Victorian-style buildings, or even your own home. My favorite is Victorian-style. A Dollhouse can be a lot more than just a typical “house.” You can make yours into a post office, a hotel, a restaurant, pub, a shop and even a hospital.

Once you pick up a kit, the next step is to figure out what you want to add to the dollhouse to make it unique. Some builders like to keep things simple, using wood or left-over pieces of material from housing projects. Other individuals like to make their homes elaborate and will use high-end materials like slate or brick. The choice is up to you.

Once the structure is constructed, the real fun can begin. Pick out your favorite paint colors, wallpaper prints, and flooring. You can also purchase or make furniture to fill out your dollhouse, depending on the type of detail you want, some dollhouses are also outfitted with lighting accessories.

Now when your dollhouse is constructed and all the work is finished, you have several options open. You can keep the house for any children you have or you can just display it in your home as a showpiece. You can also sell your work of art and make a return on what you invested in it. I usually donate the house to local charity auctions or orphanages.

So the next time you are trying to figure what you want to do with your spare time, give the idea of making dollhouses a whirl. You may end up finding a passion you never knew existed, like i did!

Adventure sports- live life on the edge says Navtej Kohli

Thursday, April 10th, 2008

Navtej Kohli is passionate about adventure sports. On this Navtej Kohli blog, he reveals his zealous side too…
If you’re living the same mind-numbing clock-in clock-out life, you certainly need to change the way you live. Come out of bed and get your skates on, we are going on an escapade!

I wonder what life without adventure is. I think it’s somewhat like a pizza without topping, or a cake without icing, for that matter. How come people don’t feel or experience fear at all?

Adventure sports don’t require extreme courage or guts, as most of people think it does. I’m not a super-brave person; in fact like most of you I have fear of fast speed, heights and so many things that defy normal life. Adventure sports are a great way to overcome your inhibitions and chop off your fears. What if you are afraid, at least give it a try. And take my words, you will soon realize what fun you were missing on. Some of the most spine-chilling adventure sports include skydiving. Oh what fun it is to fly in the sky freely, as if it belongs to you. Rock climbing is another nerve-knotting type of adventure. Think of those virgin peaks and rocky surface, its exhilarating!

Well if you ask, what’s my favorite? My vote would go to water sports, without a second thought. It encapsulates a whole array of sports from parasailing, rafting, jet-skiing to windsurfing.
You might be thinking, I’m not made for adventure sports. But once you get out of the cocoon, you will see a world full of spills waiting for you. Be a game for life, as it is said ‘There are no thrills without spills.’

Dr. Navtej Kohli New Interest - Flying

Wednesday, March 26th, 2008

On this sunday I decided to again try something new and post the experience on my Navtej Kohli blog. I joined a flying class for a decent amount. The feeling of flying in the air, feels amazing. You can just forget all your wordly worries and fly away….

To start with there are several different flying experiences you can undertake. First is formal flight training for becoming an Airline Carrier Pilot, Second is casual training for learning to fly smaller and more agile planes, Third is a guided combat adventure in which you are able to take the flight stick without any previous training.

All three are great experiences and depend on your level of interest, from a career to a weekend experience. There are different experiences for every budget starting from $49 introductory flying courses to $1000 fighter jet training lessons. I recommend flight highly as it is very exciting and miles apart from commercial airplane flight. Have Fun!

Dr. Navtej Kohli: Butterfly Gardening

Saturday, March 1st, 2008

“Dr. Navtej Kohli has taken up a new hobby”- that is what my neighbors feel. But for me it is more than just a hobby, my winged friends have taught me a thing or two about life.I personally feel butterfly gardening has become one of the most interesting hobbies today. Nothing can match up the pleasure that a beautiful butterfly can bring to your garden. To make your garden butterfly-friendly, you can follow some basic tips:

First and foremost, you should know which butterflies are in your area. This can be achieved by spending some time outdoors to get a clearer idea about the species. Reading good books can also help. I’ll try to post some good reading resources.

The butterfly garden should be placed in a sunny location for a few hours, as butterflies like to bask in the sun but they need to be sheltered from the winds. Butterflies need the sun to warm themselves, but they won’t want to feed in an area where they are constantly fighting the wind to stay on the plants. Placing a few flat stones in your garden is a good idea as the butterflies can take a break while warming up.

Butterflies require water just like we do. Keep a water resource handy and have great fun with the most beautiful creation of God!
